NEW** OUTBREEDING PROGRAM
We are excited to start a new journey in outbreeding in 2024. If all goes as planned, we will begin outbreeding our Devons for health and genetic diversity. Later this year, we will have healthy crossed kittens (half DRX/British Shorthair). Outbreeding/crossbreeding is breeding two different breeds of cats together after genetic testing to obtain a higher percentage of genetic diversity. This minimizes the risk of cats passing down certain issues and can strengthen immune systems. Devon Rex are a very young breed and outbreeding is written into TICA's Devon Rex standards and acceptable for a few more years. Only certain breeds are acceptable for outbreeding more commonly known as "outcrossing" with the Devon Rex. The goal is to return back to the proper breed "type" within 3 generations. Done properly, you can easily have a show type Devon Rex by the second or third generation! The loveable nature of the Devon Rex is often present even in the first generation of outcross litters, so they make amazing companions as well!
